DTB Architects Pty Ltd was established in 1996. Director Chris Dunkerley, Principal Architect Helga ten Brummelaar and seven support staff provide CAD Documentation, Administration and Project Management.

Following graduation in 1977 Chris worked as a tutor in architectural science and as a research assistant for the UNSW Faculty of Architecture in the area of beam sunlighting. From 1979-1983 he worked in several architectural practices in the London, where he gained his initial practical experience in design and contract administration on both small and large complex projects as well as detailed measurement and recording of older buildings.
From 1984-1992 Chris worked for Robertson & Marks Architects in Sydney on a range of major projects including new grandstands and equine facilities at Rosehill, Canterbury, Randwick and Wyong Racecourses, and Bankstown Paceway as well as upgrades and additions to grandstands at the Sydney Cricket Ground. During the period 1992-1996 Chris worked for a period on his own before winning a commission for a major upgrade to Harold Park Paceway in 1994, and joining with Wilkinson McCloskey Architects to deliver that project.
Chris established DTB Architects in 1996 and expanded the business into the tertiary education sector, completing a wide range and number of refurbishment and upgrade projects for the University of Sydney including research and teaching laboratories, office accommodation, plant and equipment spaces, refurbishment of roofs and facades (including some heritage work). He has continued to build on this substantial portfolio of work to include residential, local government, heritage and refurbishment projects. In recent years Chris has continued to receive new commissions from the University of Sydney, the NSW Harness Racing Club, International House UNSW, Australian Catholic University, several local Councils and other institutional Clients.
Chris is currently working on major upgrade works to the grandstands, administration centre and equine facilities at Tabcorp Park Menangle (Paceway) as well as several local government projects.

Helga’s initial experience as a graduate was in London where she was part of a team that completed a number of significant buildings and was involved in several successful architectural competition submissions.
On returning to Australia Helga has worked as Senior Architect, Associate Director and Senior Associate Director of large and medium architectural practices. While in these positions Helga gained experience in transport infrastructure, high end commercial interiors and other commercial projects.
In the last 10 years Helga has added Health & Aged Care as a specific area of expertise working on a variety of projects from a new private hospital to smaller departmental upgrades within existing facilities (typically completed whilst maintaining the full operation of the department)
Helga joined DTB Architects in 2003 where she continues her work in health, commercial, residential and industrial facilities along with Program Coordination, Project Feasibility Studies, Master Planning, Contract Procurement, Administration and Design Team Management. Recent projects include Service Delivery Plans and Project Delivery Plans for Health Infrastructure, facility upgrades for several Local Health Districts and various department upgrades for a Sydney based Private Hospital. Her upfront work in projects has gained her expertise in community and stakeholder management.
Helga firmly believes that “The Devil is in the Detail” and supports the reputation of the practice in its’ attention to detail.
